In the "silver district" of Mexico City, close to the Zocalo you will find blocks of silver jewelry (joyeria), as well as manufacturers and suppliers of silver (and gold) products hidden away in the tall old historic buildings that line the streets of downtown Mexico City. We have our pure silver (.925) wire and strips smelted and made into various gages and thicknesses for our Casa de Mexico joyeria. You can usually take your own raw silver, old jewelry, silver coins, etc. for smelting at most of these foundries.
We
currently use the services of Ciro Robles Hernández (a "platero"
for many years from Oaxaca, in the Itzmo) who started working in a foundry
at the age of 15 and has been in the business of smelting silver (and gold)
at Madero 67 in the Zocalo since 1972. Sr. Robles and his family including
his 4 sons (Guilermo, Daniel, Ciro and Andres), and an adopted Grandfather
are fast, knowledgeable and professional in catering to all your metal needs,
and usually take care of your order while you wait. Next door his son Daniel
has a mold making business and creates original and production silver pieces
for sale to joyeria professionals. Click on the images to to view Sr. Robles
foundry, family and employees in action.
