Oaxaca was the main state for
which gold existed, with some also being found in the state of Guerrero.
PLATA
(silver)
Found
heavily in central Mexico with mines also in Chiapas, Chihuahua and
in the Yacatán. One of the most purest silver minerals to be
found in the world.
COBRE
(copper)
The
mines were mainly found in the central Mexican states of Guerrero
and in Michoacán.
CHALCHIHUITL
(prehispanic jade)
Zacatecas
was the main state - heading to the north of Mexico that pre-hispanic
jade had been found, it was also found further south in the state
of Oaxaca.
JADE
(jade)
Most jade in Mexico is originally thought to have come from Guatemala
in central America that was used by the Mayas and Aztecs.
OBSIDIANA
(obsidian) View
Samples
Was
found heavily in central Mexico, with the biggest deposits in the
states of Querétaro, Hildalgo, Jalisco, Puebla and the state
of México. Color combinations varied with black being the most
common.
ÓPALO
(opal) View
Samples
Querétaro
state, in the center of Mexico had (and still has) the largest proliferation
of opal mines in all of Mexico.
AMBAR
(amber) View
Samples
Most
of Mexico's amber was (and still is) mined in the mountains of Chiapas.
Amber comes in honey (the most common), red, green and blue colors.
Some rare pieces can be found with small insects or plants embedded
within them.
TURQUESA
(turquoise)
Found
mainly in Sonora, Durango and Zacatecas in the north of Mexico.

de roca (quartz crystal), ágata de fuego (fire agate), pirita (pirite),
pizarra, concha (conch shell), jaspe (jasper), hematita (hematite), ágata

cinabrio (mercury), perla (pearl), cinc (zinc),
